There was always something unique about George. He would walk into advisory every morning and fall asleep with ease. Not much was known about him besides that he liked to travel, since that was all he talked about. George was portrayed as a dork and weirdo in school because he always kept to himself and rarely talked to anyone. During his morning naps in advisory, people would watch him as he slept. George would always twitch and murmur words in his sleep, which made people scared to talk to him. Sometimes he would even sleep walk for a couple seconds and do arm motions, just as if he is doing something in his dreams. When he would awake the students would make fun of him, everyone laughing at him.
The laughing and name calling caused George to become more secluded by the day. He would walk home alone, go into his room, and never come out. Even his mother would have to bring him his dinner since he was so ashamed of his sleeping problem. She would stand outside of his door calling him to come out for hours, but not a sound was made. “George!! George!! Come out before your dinner gets cold!” she would say. He was locked in there every night with no intentions of coming out, besides for school. The early morning rides to school would be silent between George and his mother. George could never open up to his mom because sadly, she treated him just like all the others.
Every night, the sound of her crying voice could be heard within the walls. George's mom, Mrs. Baker, would cry to her husband about why her son is such a freak. “Why can't George be like all the other normal kids… He's weird and an embarrassment to our family” is what George heard through the wall on a daily basis. She looked down upon her own son as if he was some disgusting embarrassing creature. Never would she comfort George when he needed her the most. She would only question his actions and begged that he acted normal for once so that her friends would stop disrespecting her. Mr. Baker on the other hand, tried his best to understand his son's problem but since Mrs. Baker was so hard on him, George kept to himself.
George lived a hard life that no child should experience. He had nowhere to escape from the world he lived, except during his sleep. George would be ridiculed and laughed at for a reason; he had a special gift that not everyone could understand. Whenever he would fall asleep, George was about to do what normal people could not. George was able to control his dreams and enter a special world where only few knew about. Those who have this special gift call this world, the Dream World.
The Dream World is a place where people can live their life just as if it is reality. Everything seems so real and feels real, but it is all a dream. The Dream World is full of children who live horrible lives and do not fit in with society. This is their safe haven from the nasty world they live in. In this world, everyone loves each other and has the ability to act any way as they please without getting ridiculed. Relationships and feelings can be formed just as if it is reality. Although when they awake, they leave the world and their regular life resumes. And when they fall asleep again, their life in the Dream World resumes.
During the day George would stay away from society and hope that one day they would just leave him alone. This is why George would always fall asleep in class and twitch during his sleep. Once he slept, he entered the Dream World where he had a very popular reputation. He was the hippest and coolest kid in town. People praised him instead of looking down on him, girls drooled over him instead of giving him nasty looks, and most importantly, people looked at him as if he was just like everyone else and not like the freak he was portray as in reality.
In the Dream World, George had his eye on this one specific girl. She was quiet average girl, but something about her attracted him to her. He could feel the connection that was developed and wanted to talk to her. George would follow her around the world, find out what she liked to do, and observed her everyday life. Since George was not really experienced in talking to girls, he thought that he would have to stay back and observe her for awhile. Every time he followed her, he would always lose her in the crowd of people and when the crowd dispersed, she was gone. It happened very frequently and that pissed George off. He could never see her for more than 5 minutes or else she would disappear somewhere, he never could understand why this happened.
Every night, George would search for the mystery girl and run into the same problem he encountered every night. This made George more emotional since his real life was horrible and now his life in the Dream World was slowly becoming dysfunctional. He tried and tried, and all his attempts seemed to fail each and every time. His observations lead him nowhere and his friends could not help him in anyway. She was special to George, maybe too special for him.
Day after day he never gave up searching for the mystery girl. All he could find out was her name, since she accidently dropped a piece of paper on the floor while he was following her. He read, “Veronica” and became extremely excited. He finally knew something personal about her! This gave George more hope, the only thing that would make his life complete is if he can actually talk to her. “Veronica, I will do anything and everything to be with you!” as George said. He had never felt this before and it was driving him insane.
Every night as he left his sleep and entered the Dream World, he ignored all his friends and went searching for Veronica. “Where are you” was all he said to himself during his time in the Dream World. Slowly, the sightings of Veronica were decreasing and it was depressing George. “What is wrong with me? Why can't I find her anymore? Why can't she just be mine already?” George was slowly becoming depressed and wanted to avoid entering the Dream World in order to save his sanity. The nights were long and torturing for George, he was falling in and out of his sleep just thinking about Veronica. He had to fall asleep though because the next day he was going to take his finals and he was already on the verge of failing.
Walking through the halls of St. Peters High School, George felt weird. “Something feels different about today, I don't know if it is a good or bad feeling just yet” said George. Looking down the hall he caught a glimpse of a pretty girl that he had never seen before. Curious, George walked towards the direction of the girl saying to himself, “Wow, how could I not notice such a pretty girl when I went here for 4 years…” Approaching the girl, her image became clearer and George stopped his steps and dropped all his books. “Is, Is, Is that who I think it is?” speaking to himself. He inched closer, very cautiously, as if he were going to get arrested if he got caught being seen by her.
George whispered while her back was turned to him, “Ver…Veronica?” Slowly she turned around and answered, “Yes? How can I help you?” Blinking his eyes in a flustering motion, he became extremely happy and started jumping up and down. “It's you!! It's you!! I've been looking all over for you! Where have you been!?” said George. Veronica, taking a step back and realizing who George actually was she said, “Oh my god! Are you… George?” Looking confused, George responded with an unsure answer, “Yes? Yes I am.” “Wow.. I can't believe it is you! I've seen you before, not in real life, but in my dreams… In my dreams I would always see you, but then run away because I was afraid to talk to you. It's weird how you always appeared in my dreams though, I don't get it, but I kind of like it.”
George ignored everything that happened in the Dream World since Veronica was unsure about the events that happened in the world so he decided to just forget it all and start fresh in reality. “Let's grab some lunch Veronica, I feel like we got a lot to catch up on!” said George. Agreeing to this date, Veronica grabbed George's hand to hold it. These feelings and actions were unclear to both of them, it almost seemed natural to the soon to be couple, they decided to just go with the flow…
